Put everything on dimmers. A bedroom with one bright ceiling fixture will never feel like this scheme regardless of what furniture is in it.

Finally, leave something unresolved. The rooms that read as collected rather than delivered all have one piece that does not match, one surface left bare, one wall waiting. bleached oak will still be there next year; the rest can arrive slowly.
